Quote for truth [Dec. 1st, 2009|01:05 pm]
From [info]kobold
http://kobold.livejournal.com/714347.html
"If you're opposed to gay marriage because of the Bible, you think it'll hurt the sanctity of marriage, or that "we don't know how it'll affect families" bullshit (ps - we do - other people have been doing it for a long time and it's no different than straight families) but you won't stand against divorce with the same vigor and rage over what IT does, then you are a hypocrite. End of story."

Just finished my Casa Fear pneumatic groundbreaker... well, the functional part at least.
Still need to do some padding and come up with a better option for the head.
I start my Halloween build this weekend.

No good deed... [Apr. 18th, 2009|11:21 pm]
[mood | embarrassed]

I was at Big Lots today, browsing the cheap foodstuffs, and a woman asked me if I could reach something on the top shelf for her.

Much as I stretched, I couldn't *quite* manage to grab it, but I was able to grab the cardboard flat it was on and let her take her own.

Putting that flat back, on the other hand... thought it went fine when I heard a distinctive *plop*-*splat* on the next aisle.

Not only had I managed to knock over a good sized container of nacho cheese (and at this point, it was nacho cheeze, not my cheeze, not anyone's cheeze but the tile's), but I almost took out a little old lady.

I do have to admit, my first instinct was to run, not walk, out of the store and pretend it didn't happen.

Instead, I spoke to said little old lady, ascertained she was fine, and then found a Big Lot's employee and confessed. All these years of reading http://notalwaysright.com/ paid off, and the employee said not to worry about it.

Makes me feel good that I at least wasn't an asshole enough to run from the scene of my crime, but I still feel like an idiot.

So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, good night [Mar. 28th, 2009|09:28 pm]

The wife is out tonight with friends.

A friend recently gave me two mannequins for my Halloween stuff.

Yes, these two items are connected.

When she gets home, she's going to turn the corner from the front door and see this:

She's going to murder me in my sleep. :)

Fun fun fun [Feb. 19th, 2009|05:24 pm]
[mood | annoyed]

I picked up a whole truckfull of burlap coffee sacks last summer as a favor for a friend. After filling his Prius to the brim and giving a lot away, I still had a metric shit-ton (shit-tons are a metric measure, right?) of burlap sacks left.

No problem! I use them for Halloween stuff.

I had them in a big mound in my nice, dry garage.

That is, until the drainage for the garage roof plugged up and we had the rainiest day of the year.

Ok, so, what do I do with a huge pile of sodden bags?

Cut for pictures )

Well, I still haven't gotten off my lazy arse and updated http://www.perfessorevil.com , but our former roommate Vicki did an awesome job as usual on the video.

This years theme was Killer Klowns/Evil Circus. I didn't get everything done that I wanted to, but hey, always next year. I'm definitely sticking with the theme for 2009... I have too many things I want to do that I didn't get around to.

Here's the video.

Wine bottles [Feb. 14th, 2009|09:20 am]
Wow, two posts in a day, and neither one a meme? That's gotta be a record for me... I think I average one every 5 months.

So, yeah, I admit it. We lived one valley over from Napa for years... we now live not to far outside the start of the Livermore wine country. We've tasted probably hundreds of wines.

So how do we pick our wine when we are at the store? Do we check Wine Spectator reviews? Nope.
Do we look at the Wilfred Wong, the BevMo shill's rating? Nope.

We tend to buy because of the funny name or purty pictures on the bottle.

By now, everyone has seen the Vampire Merlot, and some people are familiar with Werewolf wines. At Cost Plus a few weeks ago, we saw these.

How were they? Eh... the Chard tasted more like a Sauvignon blanc than a Chardonnay. The Zin was too sweet & cloying. Maybe just a hint of zombified grape?

The labels were pretty cool though.

Expensive roses [Feb. 14th, 2009|08:53 am]
[mood | amused]

Now these are flowers any guy would be happy to get on Valentine's day.

[info]valiaderekin and I are doing a lot of running around this weekend... Dinner and Friday the 13th last night, Rosicrucian Museum today, Livermore wine tasting tomorrow. I had yesterday off, so I picked us up some money for the weekend and, it being the horrible VD day today, a dozen roses.

I think I made a nice arrangement.

Ridiculously excited [Oct. 14th, 2008|12:44 pm]
[mood | bouncy]

One of my favorite books is David R. Palmer's "Emergence", published in 1985.

I just happened to hit his Wiki page, and saw this:
A sequel to Emergence, Tracking, was serialized in three parts, beginning in the July/August 2008 issue of Analog. Tracking was continued in the September issue and concluded in the October issue of the magazine.

I've already emailed Analog to see if they have those back issues.
They are available as eBooks here, but I want hard copies for this.
